Meet ESSA TrusteesESSA believes that it is vital for the organisation to be run by young people. However, it is against the law for individuals under 18 (and in some cases under 21) to be legally and financially responsible for a charity. ESSA therefore has a 'parent body', The Phoenix Education Trust. Phoenix provides a legal and financial framework within which the National Council can truly 'run' ESSA. In order to make sure that ESSA maintains its autonomy, there are three ESSA representatives on the Phoenix Board of Trustees, plus an independent young person. Together with three Phoenix trustees, these young people make sure that ESSA's voice is heard on the Trustee board. Their work is unpaid and they ensure that the work of both ESSA and Phoenix complies with the law, and that ESSA is run by and for young people. The Phoenix Trustees are:
