ESSA Elections!

Want to be in charge of ESSA?

ESSA (English Secondary Students' Association) is the representative organisation for young people when it comes to their education. We are run by young people for young people and give you a chance to be heard at the highest levels. 

We are looking for 11-19 year olds who think education needs to change! You can out your name forward between the 25th January and 12th February.

You can put your name forward for election from 25th January.  People will be able to vote for you between the 5th February and the 22nd February.

What do ESSA Council Members do?

Some of the things last year's Council did - ESSA is looking for new council members!

When?

• Launched a video competition called Manifesto for Change at Portcullis House (next to the Houses of Parliament) (have a look at the videos here http://www.youtube.com/user/yourstudentvoice)
• Held the Manifesto for Change awards at the Channel 4 studio
• Went to International Conferences in Maastricht, Vienna, Prague and Brussels
• Made speeches in front of MPs, teaching Unions and educational policy makers
• Plus much more!

What do you have to do?

As a Council Member you will be expected to:

• Attend 3-4 council meetings a year (usually in London
• Keep in contact regularly (around once a week)
• Represent young people and their views
• Be enthusiastic and excited about Student Voice (or learn to be!)

What do you do next?

• Go to the Members section of the  website
• Sign up as a member
• Send off a manifesto (a short paragraph) telling everyone why you want to join the council (here's an example of one of lasts years manifestos)
• Get all your friends to start voting!
