Teachers to protest against new academy
Teachers at Sinfin Community School will protest against plans to turn it into an academy on the 21st of May. Members of National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) are opposing the proposals as they have concerns over teachers' pay and conditions within an academy structure.
Chris Keates, the general secretary of the union, said "The NASUWT is categorically opposed to the government's academy programme... Of major concern to the NASUWT is the threat to pay and conditions of service of teachers and other staff who will be employed in the academy. The NASUWT is committed to maintaining a national framework of pay and conditions of service for all teachers in state funded schools."
ESSA is part of the Anti-Academies Alliance (www.antiacademies.org.uk), along with the NASUWT
